Everybody goes to the doctor from time to time, Most times when people go to the doctor’s office it is for purposes of a yearly check up. In addition, yearly check ups include getting weighted, blood pressure checks, temperature checks, and blood tests and sometimes the blood test includes a blood drug test. A blood drug test is done the same way as a regular blood test. Yep, that means that the drug blood test will require the use of a needle. Now I know that many people are afraid of needles and I am too.

Most people go to the doctor’s office for their yearly check up. Medical check ups may or may not be a pleasant experience but medical checkups are a necessary part of life in order to maintain good health throughout your life. During a medical check up the doctor may check your weight, your ears, nose, and throat, your temperature, and your blood pressure. In addition, yearly check ups may include getting a flu shoot or a blood test or if it is your lucky day, then you just might get both a flu shot and a blood test. Now a flu shot’s purpose is to project you from getting the flu during cold and flu season which is usually between October and February. However, there isn’t just one type of blood test. Yes, all blood tests are done the same way with a needle but many tubes of blood can and often are taken in order to do a variety of tests including a cholesterol test, a pregnancy test, a blood count test, an iron study test, and a blood drug test. It seems that the only reason that a blood drug test is performed by a doctor or nurse is because it is necessary. In other words, a patient doesn’t ask to have a blood drug test done voluntarily especially if the patient is afraid of needles.

Let me just state for the record that I am afraid of needles and I have been afraid of needles since I was eleven years old. In fact, I am so afraid of needles that I will not even knit or engage in any expression of art that involves a needle. Therefore, I refuse to get a tattoo. However, being stuck with a needle for health purposes is necessary. It is necessary to have a drug blood test because it has been court ordered due to a suspected substance abuse problem such as alcohol abuse or cocaine use. In addition, some jobs require that there employees get a blood drug employment test before they are given the job. This type of blood drug test is most often used for people who work in the food service industry. In order to work in the library, I had to have a urine analysis test and a TB test but I didn’t need a blood drug test. I was very glad of that even though I am a bit better when it comes to dealing with needles and blood tests.

Blood drug tests are not fun and most of the time they are not given unless the person has a drug problem. In addition, drug tests of any kind including blood drug tests are done at random times so that people who are subject to random drug tests can’t cheat on them in some way. Did you know that many athletes including Olympic athletes are subject to random drug tests? I don’t know if these drug tests are blood drug tests.
